Free Art Friend

I spent the last year doing something completely new. I took an opportunity to be an Art Instructor at a nonprofit for adults with IDD (Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities), and now serve as the Director for that program. It has been a rewarding and amazing learning experience, one which has surprised me in that it has made me a better artist in my own practice. The reason for that, I believe is simple, and leads me to explain what I’m doing here proposing to be your Art Friend...

Being an artist, I’m kind of a loner and that’s okay. I like to spend time alone to think, stew, ponder, etc. In my years of time spent meditating on my art and purpose, I have developed a lot of ideas about the work, the world, and myself. These are all good practices; however, it was when I started my work at the nonprofit that I began saying it out loud. All the ideas that had merely lived in my mind previously, were given so much power, and I began to see the effects of it in my own art.

So here’s my proposal: we meet, I listen, you talk.

I’m always looking for opportunity to be involved in the community and give, so this seems like a natural way for me to do that. I will meet you (publicly) for a coffee, drink (before 9 pm), walk in the park, whatever, and you can have the space to communicate about your work to a fellow artist. I am not a therapist or life coach, and will only give feedback if that is wanted as your peer. I do possess a good deal of knowledge in materials (except oil) if that is something you’d like to talk about as well. I simply want you to experience the power of verbalizing your creative thoughts and intentions.

This is free. You do not have to pay me. You do not have to tip me. I just want to give space to my fellow artists and neighbors. I believe we have an incredible job and responsibility to help create the world we want to live in as well as the one we leave behind for others. We are stronger together.

If you need someone to listen to you talk about your artistic practice, you can contact me directly at 8654665013 to set something up.

Talk soon,
